The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences consists of seven departments (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Physics und Psychology.) with 130 plus professorships and more than 4.400 researchers and staff. Research areas cover a broad spectrum with a special focus on Synthetic Life Sciences, represented by the CEPLAS centre of excellence and CRCs 1208 "Identity and Dynamics of Membrane Systems", 1535 "Microbial Networking" and TRR 341 "Plant Ecological Genetics". Multiple cooperations with other faculties at Heinrich-Heine University, as well s neighboring Universities, Max-Planck-Institutes, the Research Center Jülich and many industrial partners create a diverse, interconnected and highly productive scientific environment. 

The faculty offers more than 11.000 students a broad spectrum of modern and often interdisciplinary degree programs  and access to a diverse and  ambitious research environment . More than 900 PhD students are provided with a large variety of post-graduate training courses, career development programs and coaching through the Interdisciplinary Graduate and Research Academy Düsseldorf (iGRAD).
